OPFA System


 

 

OPFA System Layout, Eyepiece Projection Imaging

The above system layout gives an idea of the flexibility and  different configurations possible for use in a standard eyepiece projection setup (see below images for some afocal setups).  The OPFA takes advantage of its compatibility with the Astro-T2 System, permitting you to design the exact system to fit your needs.  Any 1.25" eyepiece (up to 37mm body diameter) may be used.  The eyepiece is securely retained with a separate knurled lock screw. 

The OPFA incorporates a novel sliding focuser assembly (#24), which permits you easily vary the distance between the eyepiece and camera (total travel of 12mm).  Simply loosen the lock screw, adjust the focus tube, and securely lock in place at the desired position.  Additional distances can be achieved by the use of any of our Extension Tubes (two 40mm extension tubes #25B are supplied as part of the OPFA).  This feature is particularly valuable in matching the eyepiece-to-lens distance for afocal projection systems (see below for some images of several digital cameras setup for afocal projection imaging). 

 

 


Afocal Projection Configurations

Shown below are some typical configurations, using popular digital cameras in afocal projection.  Note the adaptability of the system to match the eyepiece physical size and position relative to the camera.

 

 

Nikon Coolpix 990

Configured for 1.25" focusers, utilizing a 7.5mm plossl for projection (eyepiece not included).  Note the close coupling of the eyepiece-to-camera that the OPFA permits (critical for short focus eyepieces).

- Nosepiece 1.25"/T-2 (# T2-14)

- Digital T-Adapter (# DTA37)

- Digital T-Ring, (#DT37/28)

 

 

Nikon Coolpix 990

Same as above, but configured for 2" focusers and utilizing a 26mm TeleVue Plossl for projection (eyepiece not included).  Note the use of an included extension tube to match the longer eyepiece height.

 

Components used in this layout;

- OPFA System (#OPFA), using one 40mm extension tube

- Nosepiece 2"/T-2 (# T2-16)

- Digital T-Adapter (# DTA37)

- Digital T-Ring, (#DT37/28)

 

 

Olympus C-2020 Z

Configured for use on an SCT, and utilizing a 16mm Abbe Orthoscopic for projection (eyepiece not included).  Note the use of an auxiliary 15mm extension tube and sliding focuser position to match the eyepiece height for closely coupling the eyepiece to the cameras lens.
